BJP leaders taken into custody on way to Bareilly

Lucknow: Senior BJP leaders, including state unit president Ramapati Ram Tripathi, were taken into custody here on Wednesday when they were on their way to the trouble-torn Bareilly town which witnessed clashes between two communities.

The BJP delegation was going to take stock of the situation in Bareilly where two communities yesterday clashed over taking out of Barawafat procession, leading to curfew in four police station areas.

Tripathi alleged that senior party leaders were illegally confined in Arjunpur guest house for hours.

"The party had decided to send the delegation following complaints that police had targeted the majority community in its one sided action," Tripathi said.

Among those who were taken into custody were state general secretary, Mahendra Singh and Satyadev Singh, media secretary Hero Bajpai.
